About the Roads in MendonThe roads within the Town of Mendon generally fall into 4 categories: Private, Town, County, and State. PRIVATE ROADS are owned and maintained by the property owners adjacent to the roadway. Roadways under construction, generally within development areas, are considered private until such time as the Town accepts ownership (Dedication). These roads remain the responsibility of the developer until the Town’s acceptance of ownership. TOWN ROADS are owned and maintained by the Town of Mendon. Generally, each Town road has a deeded right of way, the width of which varies with each road. Any problems noted on a Town road, or right of way, should be forwarded to the Mendon Highway Department. You can contact Mendon Highway Department at 624-6068. COUNTY ROADS are owned and maintained by Monroe County. As with Town roads, each County road has an associated right of way. Any problems noted on a County road or right of way should be reported to Monroe County. If a problem associated with a County road or right of way is reported to Mendon Highway Department, the problem has to be relayed to the County Department of Transportation for their review.
