Town Clerk, Michelle Booth, announces the Town of Mendon, in partnership with Monroe County and Dr. Gluckman with the Mendon Animal Hospital, will hold a free rabies immunization clinic, for Town of Mendon dog owners, on Saturday, October 15, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The clinic will take place at the Mendon Highway Department, 101 Semmel Rd, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472. Town of Mendon dog owners will be able to renew or apply for a dog license, as required by New York State Law.
Both dogs and cats can be immunized at the clinic but must be at least three months old.
Dogs must be leashed, and cats must be in a sturdy pet carrier upon arrival. A copy of a prior rabies vaccination record is required to receive a 3-year rabies vaccination. Without records, a one-year initial vaccination will be provided. All shots are provided at no charge.
Rabies is a viral infection that is fatal once symptoms develop. Although a bite most often transmits the disease, it can also be spread if saliva from a rabid animal comes in contact with the mouth, nose, eyes, or an open wound on the body. Health officials strongly recommend pet vaccination as it provides a barrier to prevent the transmission of rabies from a pet that has come in contact with a rabid animal to a person that subsequently touches the exposed pet.
The Office of Town Clerk Michelle Booth will also be present at the Rabies Immunization Clinic to help Mendon dog-owners obtain a dog license.
All dog-owners in the Town Mendon are required by NYS law to obtain a dog license from the Town Clerk’s Office, for every dog over four months of age. By licensing your dog with the Town, we are able to help identify and protect your dog if it becomes lost. Licensing helps shelters detect missing pets and helps our Animal Control Officer reunite families with their pet when a dog is found. Licensing also ensures that a dog has an up-to-date rabies vaccine.
The Town of Mendon issues dog licenses for residents in the Town of Mendon and the Village of Honeoye Falls, in accordance with the Town Code. Once a dog is licensed, the Town Clerk’s Office will mail renewal notices each year.
Dog License Fees:
- Un-neutered or un-spayed dog: $15
- Spayed/neutered dog: $6
- Payment is accepted in the form of cash or check. (Checks payable to the Town of Mendon)
