The office of Supervisor in a town the size of Mendon is sometimes trivialized as being a board member who can write checks. I have realized over the last few months there is a lot more to it.
The Highway Department did its usual great job on our roads again this winter. With construction season upon us please remember to give our guys plenty of room and obey traffic delays on our roadways. We want our town highway employees safe.
Residents along the Boughton Hill corridor are considering the feasibility of extending public water to their area. A core group of four residents is pursuing the plan by going door to door for signatures.
The Mendon Fire Department has asked me to remind all residents of the town to have their house numbers in plain sight and visible after darkness as much as possible. We are all looking forward to the annual Mendon Firemen's Carnival June 3,4&5. The parade starts at 6:30 on Saturday June 5th.
Another rite of spring begins officially on May 1st: Honeoye Falls-Mendon Youth Baseball begins another season of baseball to children of the community. Stop by and enjoy the wonderful concession stand and take in a game or two. It's great to have activities in the Hamlet of Mendon. Stop by on opening day and I'll personally cook you lunch!
The largest building project in the history of Town of Mendon is reaching a pivotal point. All the wonderful people who have given their time and effort to the new Library are looking forward to the beginning of the construction season. The members of the Steering Committee and Capital Campaign are putting the final plans in place. The $503,000 New York State Library Grant includes a provision for completion by 6/30/2011and we are all anticipating a new representation of our Public Library.
On March 24th, Mayor Rick Milne and myself volunteered for the Meals on Wheels to increase awareness of senior hunger. This program is available to seniors in the Town of Mendon. The Mayor and I delivered meals to seniors in the Village and the Town. Meals on wheels delivers meals each day to help improve heath by making sure seniors are receiving good, nutritious meals. They will meet special medical and dietary needs. There are no income or assets tests. You must be 18 years of age, be physically or mentally impaired due to accident, illness or frailty, and be living alone or with some one who is unable to prepare meals and/or is absent during the day. Funding is provided from the United Way of Rochester, Monroe County Office for the Aging (federal and state funds), New York State Department of Health/Aids Institute, Long Term Care Medicaid, Private Insurance Company's and Monroe County Department of Social Services. Call my office 624.6061 or contact Meals on Wheels at 585.787.8326 or www.vnsnet.com
