A Community Forum was held on February 7, 2008 to review opinions, organize and prepare an action plan to construct a new library. This page provides an overview of thoughts and concepts to move forward.

Who is this library serving?
Our library should always serve:
children
teens
seniors
the physically challenged/handicapped
Who is in charge of this project?
Because the Town of Mendon will be funding the library project, the Mendon Town Board will act as the CEO of the project. Sub-groups will provide much of the needed man-power and input to make this a successful project. Questions about the library project should be directed to the Town Board.

General concepts
The new library needs to be something the community can be proud of. It is an important resource for our residents.
If the Town applies for a NYS construction grant for public libraries in 2008, the building must be completed by 2011 to fulfill requirements.
Forum attendees suggested the red door and other portions of the original building's facade be kept, either as a entrance to the new building or somewhere inside the new building.
Forum attendees suggest town and village historical collections be lept at the library. They are presently stored in several areas throughout the community.
The internal and external components of the library need to be appropriate to the village and town's character.
Committees will be formed to follow up on several of the fundraising ideas. Volunteers are needed.
Raise awareness that "something is missing" in the community... that this is a "Great cause".
Volunteer architects will create conceptual designs with and without the current library; completion date is April 1. The Town Board will advertise for a Steering Committee. Skills needed by committee members include marketing, communication, grant reearch, writing, interior design and building design.
